Yaga Kowalik as”Barbara”

Walking the dog Theater, presents Yaga Kowalik of Poland’s Theater of French Song in Krakow, to perform “Barbara-The Story of a Life.” This evening of French chansons, celebrating the late French singer’s unique oeuvre and life, will take place at 8 p.m. Saturday, September 6, at Walking the dog Theater/Basilica Industria, located at 110 S. Front St:., in Hudson.

Barbara (1934 to 1997) was one of the greatest personalities of the French stage. An author and performer of more than 150 unique compositions, Barbara was a contemporary of such personalities as Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens and Edith Piaf. She ultimately became one of the most celebrated French Chanson singers of the 20th century, loved by all generations not only for her sensibility, wit, and social conscience, but also for her unique musical style.

To date, Kowalik, who sings all of the songs in French, has been the only interpreter of Barbara’s songs in Poland, and has performed her program with great success in Poland and abroad. Her performance was initially prepared to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Barbara’s death in 2007.

Walking the dog Theater is honored to present this fine artist and give audiences the opportunity to experience the work of Barbara.
